Looks Small

This morning I was so worried about Emmett driving to seminary and school on his own for the first time, because he was also driving the truck for almost the first time.  He passed his driving test yesterday and now he is a legal driver. No permit anymore. He has an official and legal drivers license.  I worried about how the truck drives different then the other family cars that he has been driving for the past year and if he would get in a car wreck.  I knew my worries were not a spiritual promoting of any kind but I still worries.  Just as Emmett drove away at 6:20AM I said a prayer asking for his protecting as he drove to school.

A couple hours later, Olivia and I were having our daily family scripture time and I asked her to say the pray before we begin.  In her prayer she thanked Heavenly Father for a great night sleep.  I commented on her prayer, that is reminded me about the prayers the Middle School Group would give just before we stared play practice each Thursday.  No matter who prayed they always included a request that nobody fall off the stage.  I thought that was so funny.  It showed what they were most afraid of.

Olivia then told me about what she prayed for last night. She said the covers on her bed always fall off at some point during the night and she's too tired to reach over and grab them off the floor, so then she doesn't get good sleep.  She then explained that last night she prayed that the covers would stay on.

It's so delightfully beautiful how the lord teaches us.  Before Emmett left for school and before Olivia told me about her great night sleep, Emmett and I had our daily family scripture time and we read from Ether 3:5.  The brother of Jared is asking the Lord to touch the stones to give them light in the boats as they have to cross the water to the promised land.  In this verse it said something I had not heard from the scriptures before. It says the Lord can do great things even thou they might look small to us.  I had never heard of the scriptures identifying the Lords power looking small to us.   We are all familiar with the verse that says, in small and simple thing the Lord will bring about great things, but I had not thought about how His great things will look small and insignificant to us.

That is such a game changer for me.  I love direct evidence. I have hope in many things that the Lord has said, but when I see direct evidence then I have faith and even can say strong faith in what He says.   Here we have a small and insignificant event of Emmett driving to school safely today, Olivia getting good sleep because the covers stayed on her, and nobody ever fell off the stage.  Those could be tossed up to luck or coincidence in that the Lord could possible not be involved at all.  But I am here to testify they were not. I believe and now I have direct evidence that they Lord does great things that might look small and insignificant to us.

Keeping Emmett safe might have taken a lot of angles clearing the road and timing to when he left the seminary building.  It could have been very big to make it all possible, but it would look very small to anyone.  I am very grateful and know the Lord is involved in the small details of our lives and glad The Brother of Jared said so too.

KOR Basketball 2024-25

Part of being homeschooled is creating the needed subjects that Olivia needs. I require her to do a physical fitness class of some kind. In the fall of 2024 she wanted to do volleyball so I signed her up for KOR volleyball. KOR is a private school that accepts homeschoolers onto their sports teams. After volleyball she still had the requirement to do a physical fitness so Kennedy Jarvis (good friend on the volleyball team) and Olivia joined the KOR basketball team.  It cost $450 plus tournaments. I was hoping that if I volunteer to help we can get Olivia to play for free.  Olivia really didn't want me to help with her team, because she already get enough mom time during homeschooling.

I approached the Athletic Director and asked if they needed any help with basketball. After hearing what kind of basketball experience I have she asked me if I would be the head coach for the high school boys team as a paid position. I agreed and that started Olivia and my basketball season for 2024-25 school year.

It was incredible hard for her learning a new sport that required a lot of physical strength and running. And she did amazing, scoring in lots of games and starting as a starting position in some of them.

I was incredible hard for me because I loved the game so much I thought about it 24/7.  I would sometimes even wake up in the middle of the night with how to run practice the next day.  The boys on my team came with a wide range of talent and I had to get all of them to a leave that they can play together. Then I had to teach them high school level of team work. Then I had to get them to improve individually so we could play at a high school level of competition.  The hardest part was sometimes I would only have 3 in practice. I got really creative and usually had to dress out and practice with them.  I lost 20 pound and got it great shape very quickly.

I've included a fun video of the middle school girls playing a little basketball against the high school boys. They were very gentlemen like and the girls loved every second.

Stop to visit Eric and Kari, in Seattle, on our way to Alaska

In 2014 we took a trip to Alaska for the anniversary of Aaron's 20th High School Graduation.  Our first stop was in Seattle Washington to visit his brother Eric and wife Kari. They had 2 little toddlers at the time, Soren and Kate.

SNOW DAY.  School didn't open until 10:00.  The boys came home from school and the snow was still around and so they filled their buckets full of snowballs and had a real snowball fight.  The friends around are usually Josh and Matt, and then Grayson and Blake and Gabe.

Winter/Spring fun in Texas

Winter camping in Texas is like spring camping in Utah.  The weather is perfect.  Maybe Texas has a very short winter and really long spring. Either way, here are some outside fun we've had this Winter/Spring, 2014.

Olivia fell asleep standing up. :)
Together we did a mini triathlon. Finished in 2 hours
